Animal/Dog Control - New Zealand
A daily walk with your dog should be almost routine, however
in most New Zealand cities there are bylaws in effect that place
certain conditions on how this is done. These bylaws are designed
to among other things protect the public, private property, the
environment and protected species. It is up to you as dog owner
to be aware of the bylaws in your area. All dog owners are subject
to The Dog Control Act 1996 and The Dog Control Amendment
Act 2003. In some of New Zealand's larger cities the local
authories have set aside designated "dog exercise areas"
to allow us dog owners to exercise our dogs with less restrictions
in place.
The Pet Network has attempted to point you in the right
direction for information on Animal Control in your area by providing
links to local authority websites (where they exist) and contact
numbers for animal control officers in your area. If you find
and anomaly or a broken link please email
us here at The Pet Network so that we can update our site.
